My Story

A Journey of Resilience and Artistic Growth

I’ve traveled a path filled with challenges and remarkable growth. After graduating from Taipei Municipal Kai-Chih School’s vocational program, I now receive care at Hengai Development Center, where I’m recognized for having "Severe Multiple Disabilities."

My story began with a diagnosis of autism at just one year old. After nearly two years of behavioral therapy at National Taiwan University Hospital, doctors suspected there was more to my condition. This led to three journeys to California Children’s Hospital and multiple chromosome tests. While the tests didn’t provide clear answers, the doctors, drawing from their experience, identified Marfan syndrome with multiple disabilities, later confirmed through further genetic testing in Taiwan.

Starting at three and a half, I’ve engaged in various therapies—speech, occupational, sensory integration, and even acupuncture. My life took a creative turn almost three years ago when I was introduced to the Taiwan Autistic Arts Association. Under the nurturing guidance of Teacher YinChun, I’ve transformed from needing my mother’s hand to guide mine, to creating artwork on my own, following just verbal instructions.

In the art classroom, I take my duties seriously, always attentive to the clock and calendar. My dedication to assignments has paid off—my teacher often remarks on the progress I’ve made. While my journey is far from perfect, every stroke of the brush is a step forward. I’m committed to continuing this journey, with the hope that one day I’ll complete an entire artwork independently.
